  6. The Western Digital Elite Series of Ethernet adapters has been
  7. tested in-house and are compatible with all other LANtastic Network
  8. Operating System software.  This bulletin should replace all other
  9. notes generated from this office to date.

  11. The following information is based on in-house testing and customer
  12. support of LANtastic AI.  If you are not a registered LANtastic
  13. owner, your questions should be directed to our technical sales

  19. RUNNING LANTASTIC AI WITH A WESTERN DIGITAL ELITE SERIES ADAPTER

  21.          The Elite 8 (8-bit) and Elite 16 (16-bit) are the current
  22. adapters from Western Digital. They are multi-media adapters,
  23. supporting the thick (10BASE5), thin (10BASE2; also called
  24. cheapernet or coaxial), and the twisted pair (10BASET) subsets of
  25. the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet specifications. Both adapters are supported
  26. with the WD8003.EXE program that is made available with
  27. LANTASTIC/AI 4.0.
  28.  
  29.          There are three jumpers in the upper middle section of the
  30. adapter. Two of them provide a predefined combination of IRQ,
  31. IOBASE and RAMBASE. It is very important that our WD8003 program's
  32. options match up with the hardware configuration. If neither of
  33. these two predefined combinations works, then you need to place
  34. that jumper on the SOFT setting, and use the WD-supplied EZSETUP
  35. program to configure the hardware.
  36.  
  37. TO TRY ONE OF THE PRE-DEFINED COMBINATIONS OF IRQ, IOBASE AND
  38. RAMBASE:          
  39. 1) Jumper the appropriate pin, and take note of what IRQ, IOBASE  
  40.    and RAMBASE it is providing.          
  41. 2) Run our WD8003 program, and make sure the software switches    
  42.    match the hardware configuration.

  44. TO TRY A COMBINATION OF IRQ, IOBASE AND RAMBASE THAT IS NOT OFFERED
  45. AS A PREDEFINED OPTION.           
  46. 1) Jumper the SOFT pin.           
  47. 2) Run the Western Digital-supplied utility called EZSETUP to     
  48.    configure the hardware.          
  49. 3) Run our WD8003 program, and make sure the software switches    
  50.    match the hardware configuration.

  52.          Do not use the Western Digital NETBIOS software. However,
  53. the EZSETUP and the diagnostic programs should be run.
  54.  
  55.          After running the INSTALL program, our device driver
  56. called WD8003.EXE will be in the LANTASTI subdirectory, and will be
  57. the first program that you run. However, there is currently a
  58. problem with the WD8003 program where it will inadvertently take up
  59. more high memory than it should. ARTISOFT suggests that you start
  60. out using the 8-BIT software switch, at least until you can log in,
  61. and use the network to COPY large amounts of files. Once that
  62. works, try it without using the 8-BIT software switch.
  63.  
  64.          EXAMPLE: IF the jumper were on the SOFT setting, AND IF
  65. EZSETUP had told the adapter to use and IRQ of 10 (NOTE: IRQs of 10
  66. or 15 need to have the 16-bit adapter in a 16-bit slot), an IOBASE
  67. of 300 and a RAMBASE of D800, then the WD8003 command line,
  68. including the 8-BIT software switch, would look like this (it does
  69. not need to be in caps):
